Although most of the world’s pressing issues such as conflict, climate change and access to clean water disproportionately impact women, female leaders are rarely at the decision-making tables. In order to make sustainable change, women need to be included as leaders and decision makers. As leaders, women bring different perspectives and a diversity of skills that can drive innovative solutions and make lasting change.
Counsellor Yvette Chesson-Wureh is one of these leaders. Chesson-Wureh leads the Angie Brooks International Centre for Women’s Empowerment and Leadership Development and is best known for initiating the Women's Situation Room (WSR) for the Liberian elections in 2011. WSR is an early warning and rapid response mechanism against violence arising before, during and after elections. The project has now been started in seven different African countries. She'll join us to talk about her experiences on how women leaders in Africa have made substantive changes on stubborn issues, and why people across the globe—male and female—need to champion women leaders as the key to forging systemic global solutions. This program will be jointly presented by World Affairs and SHE-CAN.
