Chain of Events

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Desta Gallery is excited to announce a new exhibition "Chain of Events," featuring paintings by Katy Kuhn and ceramics by Kris Marubayashi on view from October 1 to November 9. Join us for artists reception on Saturday, October 2, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm!

Katy Kuhn is a Bay Area native, a third generation Californian and has lived in Marin for over 25 years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from UC Berkeley and studied printmaking at the Idyllwild Arts Academy. She has been integrating those skills into her painting compositions. She has exhibited actively for the last sixteen years in solo and group shows and frequently participates in juried exhibitions. Her work can be found in numerous private collections.

As a mid-career artist, Kuhn has developed her own recognizable style. Her inspirational sources encompass deep feelings of connectivity, vulnerability, spontaneity, and joy. Her travels to Asia, Europe, Africa, and Caribbean have enriched her creative process resulting in enigmatic and provocative works. She draws influences from many contemporary artists including Joan Mitchell, Ramono Lotto, Robert Kingston, Hyunmee Lee, and Krista Harris--all she references as "artists with an energetic truth and sensibility about their work." Today, Kuhn continues to work towards creating art with a focus on beauty, energy, and her own truth, reflecting her inner passion for life and adventure.

Kris Marubayashi is a sansei (third-generation Japanese American) born and raised in New York. She hails from a family of artists, including her architect/landscape father, who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright, and her mother, who was trained in decorative arts. She received her B.A. in studio art at San Francisco State University, where she studied under American ceramic artist David Kuraoka.

She exhibits at several shows per year, and she has been awarded "Award of Excellence, Ceramics" at ACC St. Paul 2019 show, "Best of Ceramics" at Sun Valley Center Arts and Crafts Festival in 2018 and 2019, and "Award of Merit" at Craft Forms 2018. In 2017, she was named one of ten top California ceramicists.
