Celebrating 60 Years of the Grateful Dead with Jazz Mafia’s Grateful Brass

at Grace Cathedral (7:30pm)
Grateful Brass reimagines the iconic music of the Grateful Dead with an instrumentation of brass, drums and vocals (no guitar!). The music digs deep into the Grateful Dead discography with creative re-imaginations infused with the ebullient spirit of New Orleans Second Line, trance-like grooves of Afrobeat, brass-driven energy of Balkan music, and energetic Afro-Cuban polyrhythms, all sitting on top of a heavy foundation of funk.

The Grateful Dead got their start as the Warlocks at Magoo's Pizza Parlor at 639 Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park, on May 5, 1965. Come celebrate 60 years of their phenomenal music and the phenomenon they inspired with Jazz Mafia's Grateful Brass bringing their unique spin to Grateful Dead classics!

Led by Adam Theis, a member of Bob Weir's Wolfpack since 2020, Grateful Brass brings the Dead's music to life through the electrifying force of horns, drums, and vocals. Featuring vocalist Erin Honeywell and Kate Lamont, the band fuses jazz, funk, and brass-heavy grooves with the improvisational spirit that defines the Dead's legacy. Jazz Mafia's renditions add a fresh, high-energy twist to the iconic tracks and capture the magic and the spirit of the Grateful Dead's innovative sound.

This loving homage performed in the Gothic grandeur of Grace Cathedral, reimagined as a psychedelic ballroom of the 60s with a Liquid Light Show provided by Mad Alchemy, will make you fall in love with Grateful Dead's music all over again - or for the first time.
