Celebrate Traditional Puerto Rican Music: Día del Cuatro

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Club Puertorriqueño de San Francisco (see times)
Club Puertorriqueño de San Francisco kicks off the holiday season with a celebration of the island’s national instrument—the cuatro!

The cuatro resembles a small guitar, but is tuned with a unique twang. It is the central element in jíbaro or Puerto Rican country music, and a symbol of national pride.

The event will feature musicians from Puerto Rico to celebrate El Día del Cuatro. Pedro Pastrana, guest cuatrista (cuatro player); and Edgardo Delgado, guest trovador.

The trovador is a singer/poet that is given a random topic and then improvises musical lyrics within a rhythmic structure. The event will also feature slow elegant danzas (Puerto Rican waltzes), upbeat plenas (coastal music), and jovial aguinaldos (Puerto Rican holiday music).

Club Puertorriqueño de San Francisco’s mission is to conserve and promote the values and culture of Puerto Rico. The club has donated over $20,000.00 to Puerto Rico and Mexico in the past year to aid in the devastation caused by the massive hurricanes and earthquakes of 2017.

This lively cultural event is open to the general public.
Puerto Rican food will be available for purchase; no-host bar.

2:00PM DoorsOpen
3:00PM Music will begin- but get there early for the food!

Entrance Fee: $20 at the door.
