CatchLight Local Information Session

SEE EVENT DETAILS

The CatchLight Local Visual Storytelling Initiative is a place-based program that connects powerful visual storytelling directly with local newsrooms and community members to establish vital common ground for diverse insights and possible solutions to critical issues in a local context.
On June 6, 2019 CatchLight launched an open call for visual storytellers, the deadline to apply is July 10, 2019, noon PST. Starting with a 2019 pilot in the Bay Area, this three-month long, $15,000 Fellowship will provide resources for visual storytellers to work on stories affecting their communities. Each visual storyteller will be paired with local newsrooms and story ideas can either be their own or assigned by the newsroom. During the fellowship term, visual storytellers will bring their work and process directly to the community through local “town hall” events and look at ways to bring the community back into the newsroom.
On Wednesday June 26th we will be hosting an information session featuring a live Q&A with CatchLight Local staff and newsroom partners, an informal project pitch breakout session, and lightning talks by program partners working at the intersection of community-based visual storytelling, journalism, creative placemaking, and social change. For those unable to attend in person this event will be livestreamed and available to watch later on our Facebook page.
This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30pm; Program begins at 6:00pm.
