On their debut album the sound is carefully layered, leaning on strong core songwriting, hypnotic synths, lush guitar tones from Curt Kiser (ex-Pomegranates, Enlou), with contributions on percussion delivered by Bryan Devendorf (The National), and nuanced, dynamic bass lines from John Curley (Afghan Whigs).
The strength of their live performance comes from the ability to deliver epic soundscapes while still intimately connecting with audiences. Even through they are only getting started they have already been making noise regionally having shared the stage with Damien Jurado, Big Thief, Sam Evian, Kyle Craft, The Dove & The Wolf, Harpooner, Kississippi, Anna Burch, Michael Nau, Robert Earl Thomas and more.

Dead Poet Society

Dead Poet Society is a four-piece band that formed while at Berklee School of Music in Boston, playing fretless instruments that create an uncanny wobble effect, and atypical distortion that sounds more like a vintage synth on steroids than an actual guitar. Their sound is both genre defying and defining. The band features singer Jack Underkofler, guitarist Jack Collins, bassist Nick Taylor, and drummer Will Goodroad.
The group attracted fan attention with the release of their debut single Sound and Silence in 2014 and saw them gain a growing fan base with the release of their AXIOM and DEMPSEY EPs that followed.
In 2016 their music was discovered by the influential Mexican blog Pepe Problemas. Their review caught the attention of another up and coming band Sputnik, who invited DPS to open for them on their national tour of Mexico. The opportunity lead to more tours south of the border and a rapidly growing fan base that has resulted in Dead Poet Society being asked to headline their own national tours of Mexico the fall/winter of 2018/19.
On October 19th 2018 the new single and video “American Blood” was released. It’s the first time the band has used an outside producer and mixer. Englishman Alex Newport was suggested after his work with Death Cab For Cutie, At The Drive-In and City and Colour. He picked “American Blood” from a selection of new demos and recorded the song at his Highland Park, CA studio earlier this summer. Mid December the band will be back in the studio with Alex to finish recording their debut album, set for release in early 2019.
