PianoFight's house band, the 10-piece, surfy, soulful, funk-forward Californicorns, release their debut full-length album, "Warm Oakland Nights," with a show at historic Bay Area venue Great American Music Hall. Featuring local rockers The Damn Fanatics and R&B princess Ellisa Sun, the night will conclude with Californicorns playing their new album in full with special guests and a few surprises along the way. "Warm Oakland Nights" is the debut full-length album from Californicorns, who released the EP "Surf. Soul. Party." in 2014. Original and throwback, shredded gnar and sultry croon, Californicorns are climbing a wall of sound to a big sweaty dance party filled with sentimental ballads and get-your-ass-off-the-wall jams.
"Warm Oakland Nights" is the first full length album from Californicorns. The album pays homage to classic American soul, funk and rock and roll and to the Bay Area at large. "The title track 'Warm Oakland Nights (Cool San Francisco Days)' is a love letter to the whole Bay Area."
Ellisa Sun aims to incorporate Jazz, Soul, and R&B into her music, drawing parallels to Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill. Her influences also include female singer-songwriters Feist and Regina Spektor, as well as Trip-hop artists Zero 7 and Bjork. Website.
The Damn Fanatics, hailed as "Boot stomping rock and roll" by The Bay Bridged, formed in the Fall of 2013, under the mission of creating a show that would provide "a sweaty good time." Mixing classic rock 'n roll with modern electronics and plentiful theatrics, the SF based trio uses their disparate musical tastes to their advantage, with a goal of pushing their own personal limits and creating a hive mind of sound. The band is Andrew Hansen Strong (vocals, guitar), Matt "X" Grandy (keyboards, vocals) and Chris "Cookies" Kelly (drums).
