SEE EVENT DETAILS

CALIFORNIA FLASHBACK FESTIVAL

Black Editions is honored to present the first ever CALIFORNIA FLASHBACK FESTIVAL: Two evenings inspired by the historic Tokyo Flashback albums that introduced the world to Tokyo's incredible psychedelic 90's underground and instigated generations of psychedelic rock freaks around the world.

In this spirit we present a rare convergence of this era's most vital psychedelic rock groups including artists that themselves appeared on the original PSF album- a genuine, full-blown 21st Century freak out!!

Acid Mother Temple- An ever shifting radical collective of true heads and one of the most prolific and kaleidoscopically heavy psychedelic groups of this or any era. AMT will be celebrating the first ever vinyl issue of their 1997 PSF debut album on Black Editions in a very limited California Flashback 2LP edition available only at these shows.

Heron Oblivion- Sub Pop, SF based super-group that have mastered an intense soulful psych-folk that crosses wild electric excursions with a Fairport induced sound - California’s finest lysergic travellers of the modern era.

Psychedelic Speed Freaks- One of the greatest psychedelic guitarists of all time Munehiro Narita, a founder of Japan's legendary High Rise, leads this new power trio. Performing classics from Narita's 40 year deep catalog as well as new material soon to be released on their debut Black Editions LP. A limited California Flashback version will be available exclusively at these shows.

Kinski- Seattle scorchers that have driven massive, heavy walls of fuzz and pure tripped out sound since their formation in the late 90's. Fresh on the heels of their album Accustomed to your Face LP on Kill Rock Stars.

Major Stars- Drag City/Twisted Village superstars bring their fiery triple guitar attack to California for the very first time in their over 20 year history. Featuring members of B.O.R.B, Life Partners and Pants Yell!

Headroom- New blood from New Haven make their West Coast debut featuring the finest of the new East Coast underground - Their Head in the Clouds LP on Trouble in Mind is easily one of the best psych album of the last 10 years.

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan- Canadian psych/prog champions return to the US for a dose of head-spinning heavy rock supporting their 2018 Paperbag Records LP Dirt.

Mountain Movers- After setting the east coast on fire Mountain Movers make their West Coast debut performing hits from their acclaimed Pink Skies LP on Trouble In Mind Records.

HERON OBLIVION

San Francisco’s Heron Oblivion is the new group featuring Meg Baird (Espers), Noel Von Harmonson (Comets on Fire, Six Organs of Admittance, Sic Alps, The Lowdown), Ethan Miller (Comets on Fire, Howlin’ Rain, Feral Ohms), and Charlie Saufley (Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound).

Heron Oblivion’s origins date to 2013 in SF’s Bayview district, where its four members– fueled by a love of 60s/70s scuzz and commune jams, folk rock, noise, and P.S.F. Japanese underground—would get together for what Miller describes as “blistering, extended free jam sessions.” The four musicians realized that their initial chemistry (which was strong from the outset) was undeniable and it’s vision unified. Heron Oblivion was born.

Ultimately, Heron Oblivion fused song craft to its improvisational leanings. What materialized is a mesmeric compilation of English folk rock and earthy West Coast psychedelia spiked with feedback and explosive dissonant elements.
