California Feetwarmers - Concert and Dance Party

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Veterans Memorial Building (see times)
On Saturday, March 16, at 8:00 p.m., the Grammy-nominated masters of New Orleans ragtime, Dixieland blues, and early swing, better known as the California Feetwarmers, slide into the Veteran's Memorial Building in downtown Pleasanton for a concert/dance party hosted by the City of Pleasanton's Firehouse Arts Center.

Known for their boisterous on-stage antics and fine playing, which is as close to original 1920's New Orleans as it gets, the 7-man Los Angeles-based band features "horn-heavy rags, banjo stomps, and happy trad jazz." Folkworld magazine says: "Enough spark to raise the dead!"

The set-list includes stylishly re-worked classics, revisiting material from The Blue Ridge Playboys, Scott Joplin, The Memphis Jugband and Emile Grimshaw's Rag Pickers, to name a few. Major influencers on the group's vibes are Louis Armstrong, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Emmett Miller, Henry Red Allen, Jelly Roll Morton, Johnny Dodds, Kid Ory, and the like.

Firehouse Youth Programs Coordinator Mark Duncanson says: "This show is unique and it's a first. We chose to have them perform at the Vet's Hall to give our audience a chance to enjoy a band with the added experience of being able to dance! We will set up the concert like a dance hall - New Orleans style!" Guests are encouraged to come dressed for the genre, notes Mark.

The band: Brandon Armstrong - sousaphone/Bass; Charles De Castro - cornet/Accordion/vocals; Josh Kaufman - clarinet/accordion/piano/vocals; Carlos Reynoso - washboard/Guitar/vocals; Dominique Rodriguez - snare drum/bass drum; Justin Rubenstein - trombone/vocals; Patrick Morrison - Banjo/Guitar.
