April marks the month of Semana Santa, Spain's Holy Week, where vibrant crowds flock to view enormous processions winding through city streets. A dance tradition called the sevillana, a colorful and exciting style of flamenco performed in pairs, emerged from these celebrations. Born on the streets of Sevilla, it was originally a courting ritual.
In honor of Semana Santa, Rhythmix and Caminos Flamecos will hold a sevillanas contest as part of April's Café Flamenco. Up to eight couples may dance, and the contest will be judged by the audience. All contestants who wish to compete must come with their partner, sign in at the door, and wear a badge during the contest. Wear your favorite flamenco attire to add to the festivities!
The show will also feature top-notch dancers and musicians, including Emmy-winning dancer and choreographer Yaelisa, Music Director Jason McGuire "El Rubio," and special guest singer Roberto Zamora.
Advance tickets are recommended, as this popular show regularly sells out. All ages welcome!
