San Francisco Bay Area-based, C. Marcus Scott & The Funky Spliff, captures the true essence of New Orleans funk, roots reggae, classic soul and R&B music. Led by vocalist, composer,front-man extraordinaire, Marcus Scott, the group includes some of Bay Area's most sought after musicians, including: Musical Director and keyboardist, Daniel "Goose" Elfving, band leader and drummer, Brad Hamblin, horn section leader and saxophonist, Bill Sparks, bass player, Willie Riser, Philip Peterson (rhythm guitar, percussion) and guitarist Youseff Khiari.
In addition to the core members, the group is frequently joined by the Brass to Mouth horn section, Joshua Cambridge (trombone) and George Brahler (trumpet) as well as violinist, Hannah Glass, percussionist, Adam Grant, vibraphonist, Dillon Vado, John Korty (harmonica, organ) and steel plandrummer, Mark Rosenthal.

C. Marcus Scott
Hailing from San Francisco's Bayview and Ingleside districts, Marcus Scott was born into one of the Bay Area's family that includes grandmother Lucille Harris (who ran one of San Francisco's most infamous boarding houses for musicians of color in the 1940's and 1950, often frequented by Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole), mother Cecille Harris Scott (Motown promoter) as well as twin brother Martin Scott (Co-founder Pride and Joy), Marcus Scott has been captivating audiences around the country for nearly four decades.
Dating back to the early 1980's with his days as a founding member of legendary Bay Area R&B and soul outfit Pride, his storied career includes collaborations and long-term stints with Vinyl, The Dynatones and The Monophoncis. A living legend in his own right, Marcus is known for his 3 ½ -octave range, dynamic live performances, electrifying stage presence and original personal style. Having never been afraid to tackle current political affairs in his music, C. Marcus and The Funky Spliff have created a timeless sound which is stacked with clever lyrical phrasing, catchy hooks and soaring musical harmonies.
Daniel "Goose" Elfving
Born and raised on the Peninsula, Daniel "Goose" Elfving began his musical career at an early age. As a classically trained pianist, Daniel has been performing for audiences since middle school. By his early 20's Daniel was embracing the San Francisco funky scene, frequenting the Boom Boom Room regularly where he soaked up the sounds of local Hammond organ/clavinet heroes Wil Blades, John Korty and Jordan Feinstein. After graduating fromthe College of San Mateo's (CSM) Contemporary Jazz Program, Daniel has taken onthe role of musical director of the band. Daniel's sound is comprised of 1971 Hammond A-100 (including a Leslie147), 1971 Hohner Clavinet Model-C, Korg SV1 and Nord Electro 4D.
Brad Hamblin
A funk and R&B enthusiast since the age of 5, Brad has developed a distinct drumming style which fuses linear funk, jazz and rock. A Peninsula native, just like childhood friend, Daniel "Goose" Elfving, Brad's love for funk and R&B was exacerbated after being exposed to San Francisco's emerging funk/soul/R&B scene. A student of famed jazz drummer, Tommy Igoe, Brad has played with several local funk bands including Project Q and Quench. Brad's sound is comprised of Gretsch drums and Istanbul cymbals.
Youssef Khiari
Originally from Tunis, Tunisia Youssef currently attends the California Jazz Conservatory. Picking up the guitar at the age of 11, it was not until he turned 17 that hisinterest in Jazz/funk/soul started to thrive. Playing and learning jazz with Tunisianmaster Fawzi Chekili and Mehdi Azaiez, Youssef was quickly accepted to"Jazz Club de Tunis" where he had the opportunity to meet and play with the some of the finest musicians in Tunisia. After being accepted to the California Jazz Conservatory in 2017, Yousef moved to Berkeley, CA to pursue his music studies. In addition to C. Marcus Scott and The Funky Spliff, Youssef also leads "Soundwaves From Tunisia" a project which fuses Jazz and Tunisian/Arabic traditional music. Youssef's sound includes Gibson and Fender guitars and a Fender Twin Reverb amplifier.
