Buscando América: Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble Concert

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join the Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble for Buscando América (looking for America), a special evening of music which delves deeper into the connections between the music of Latin and North America. The concert features repertoire and musical arrangements specifically chosen to illustrate the rich relationships between the two idioms -- far beyond the basic mixing of the rhythms of Latin America with the harmonies of Jazz. The result is an exciting blend of sounds that is guaranteed to perk up your ears and maybe get you moving out of your seat! We explore Cuban Carnival, Cuban Songo, Motown, Bebop, Blues, Funk, Vocal jazz ballads and more! Don't miss it!
The concert is Saturday, June 1 on the Stanford campus in Dinkelspiel Auditorium at 7:30 PM. It is best to get your tickets online. For more information and ticket links, see the group website at http://latinjazz.stanford.edu, connect to our Facebook page, or directly visit the Stanford Events Website.
Hope to see you there!
Established in 2008 by Grammy-nominated pianist Murray Low, the ensemble has emerged as one of the premier academic performing groups of its kind. As prior recipients of a prestigious SiCA (Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts) grant, SALJE has been afforded the opportunity to collaborate with several luminaries in the field of Afro-Latin music that have helped to elevate the ensemble's performance acumen, as well as aid in establishing Stanford as a vital West Coast center for Afro-Latin Jazz.
