Sarajo Frieden is a Los Angeles-based artist who is influenced by the light, color, and diasporic communities of California. She is a multidisciplinary artist who works across fine art and design in a variety of materials and settings to challenge the hierarchies between these worlds. As a designer/illustrator, her work has appeared in books, packaging, and textiles.
Frieden's interest in visual culture has led to her research of indigenous eastern and western art traditions. This has spurred on a questioning of the prevailing orthodoxies that have built up around them, and has urged her to explore an expanded, nature-centered vision that she believes is urgently needed today.
In her current solo exhibition, "burstforth," she infuses a joy of color, the inspiration of nature and man-made environment, the complex patterns of organic and geometric designs, and a playful experimentation with material. She will be giving an artist's talk at 3:30 pm to discuss these influences. A reception from 2-5 pm also includes light snacks and the award-winning wines of Urbano Cellars and Revolve will be available for tasting or by the glass.
