CBO/SPWG Brown Bag Lunches: Building youth worker and non-profit staff's advocacy skills
What: Brown Bag Lunches for youth workers and service providers
Why: Let's build power in the youth worker and CBO world. Most of us are direct service providers, but we rely on others to resource and support our work (i.e. the City budget add-back process; Propositions; SFUSD contracts and dynamics). Let's get together to build our skills in advocacy and our personal and collective power.  Brown Bag Lunches will be community- and skill-building opportunities.
When: Once a month starting on June 28th, from 12-1:30pm or 11:30-1pm. First 30 minutes will feature a speaker, second 30 minutes are discussion and Q&A last 30 minutes are optional for continued strategizing, organizing, or collective work.  Bring your own lunch in a brown bag or otherwise.

Interested?  Please RSVP if you would like to join.  Pui Ling Tam, ED of Peer Resources will coordinate and facilitate the first three Brown Bags; Peer Resources will host (Mission High, room 410). If the first three sessions go well and there's an interest in continuing the Brown Bags, we welcome another coordinator, facilitator, and/or host.  Let's build this organically and as it meets our collective need for support and advocacy.

About the facilitator: Pui Ling has led Peer Resources for the last eight years, and has been a SF youth worker since 2005 focused on youth empowerment and youth leadership. She believes that the training we provide our young people and the leadership we seek for them translates to our staff as well, and that our field can have more impact when we build power together.

UPCOMING TOPICS:
Topics for June, July and August:

Power Mapping San Francisco (Featuring SF community organizer)

SF Legislation 101 (Featuring a Legislative Aide to District Supervisor)

Inside vs Outside: What I Know Now About SF Policymaking (Featuring a former community organizer/youth worker now working in City Hall)
