Broad Strokes - the work of Les Toil

Broad Strokes The Art of Brian Clark aka Les Toil
August 1st - 30th

Artist Reception
August 8th 1
2Noon -4pm
The Grand Gallery
560 2nd St. Oakland

Brian Clarke is badass. Aka Les Toil, he grew up in Berkeley, Ca. Need I say more? Surrounded by Big Daddy Roth model cars, the Fantastic Four, MAD Magazine, The Jackson Five and Bruce Lee the very forces that became the foundational threads
shaping his work.

You can see those threads in his new show Broad Strokes this August at the Grand Gallery.

Attending both the California College of Arts and The San Francisco Academy of Art, Brian honed in on the Rennaisance and many masters of the 20th century American Illustration.
These skills launched his career as a painter and editorial magazine illustrator with a pop culture twist.

His work appeared on the covers of Gearbox Magazine, music posters for the Misfits, he collaborated with Detroit Rock City director Adam Rifkin to create Smobots which prompted a stellar review from the legendary Stan Lee.

"Over the years there have been so many stories about robots that I didn't think there could possibly be a new angle.

Boy, was I wrong! Once you read "Shmobots," by the clever writer/artist team of Adam Rifkin and Les Toil, with a surprise on. almost every page, you'll never look at robots the same way again!"
-STAN LEE

If that's not enough to trigger your curiosity, Les also created the covers for Harlan Ellison's Gettin in the Wind and Pulling a Train.
And the list goes on.

Come to the Artist Reception. Meet the artist. See the work.
