Just in time for Mardi Gras, musical mayhem, marching band madness and a powerful, “blow out the windows” sound are the hallmarks of San Francisco’s most raucous and sought after New Orleans fusion band, the Brass Mafia. The ensemble includes trombone, trumpet, sax, drums and tuba and together they perform music from varying decades and continents as well as unexpected mashups and some of their originals. They will be joined onstage by guest vocalist Yvette Pylant.
The Brass Mafia emphasizes heavy backbeats, creative improvisation and unique arrangements. They have been featured at events for SF Jazz; SF’s Annual Fat Tuesday Parade and have collaborated with Lyrics Born, Thomas Dolby, Peter Rowan and Nicki Bluhm.
