Botanist ~ Amber Asylum ~ Dawn of Ouroboros

at Bottom of the Hill (8:30pm)
Botanist
http://botanist.nu

The songs of Botanist are told from the perspective of The Botanist, a crazed man of science who lives in self-imposed exile, as far away from Humanity and its crimes against Nature as possible. In his sanctuary of fantasy and wonder, which he calls the Verdant Realm, he surrounds himself with plants and flowers, finding solace in the company of the Natural world, and envisioning the destruction of man. There, seated upon his throne of Veltheimia, The Botanist awaits the time of humanity's self-eradication, which will allow plants to make the Earth green once again.

Botanist's message is of hope, of faith in the power of the Natural balance, one that transcends humanity's self-seen importance and places us all in a truer place in the universal picture. Botanist believes that although mankind is destroying the Earth's natural environment, humanity cannot destroy Nature permanently. Humanity can destroy Nature only for humanity, meaning that even if all life, including humanity, has been eradicated, Nature will bounce back. Something will exist out of nothing, just as it always has, and that something will exist whether humanity is a part of it or not.

Botanist believes the world is the most valuable thing in the world. The most essential thing. Nature offers the truest, most tangible vista into the face of the divine, whose unnamable, unknowable existence is reflected through our natural environment. If we want to enjoy this world, to venerate it, to thrive within it, we must respect it, we must protect it, even if it's only for our personal benefit. If we don't, if we annoy the Earth enough, the Earth will kill us and move on. What choice will we make?

Amber Asylum

"The group Amber Asylum, formed in San Francisco, is made up of a talented -- if changeable -- group of artists. Kris Force acts as violinist, guitarist, and lead vocalist; Wendy Farina handles drum kit and percussion; Erica Stoltz is both bassist and vocalist; and Jackie Gratz plays the cello. Other musicians have been members or have worked with the group, such as Timothy North, John Benson, violinist Annabel Lee, cellist Martha Burns, John Oberon, pianist Michael Richards, Blaise Smith, clarinetist Heather Sneider, guitarist and drummer Steve Von Till, and Camille Norment.

Along the way, Farina has worked with other groups like Towel, Condor, and Red Shark. Stoltz has appeared as bassist and lead vocalist for a band called Lost Goat. Force and Gratz have performed with the groups Matmos and Neurosis.

Amber Asylum's first release was a split, "Looking Glass/Poppies." In 1996, the group completed a full-length album, Frozen in Amber, under the Elfenblut label. "Heckle and Jeckle," "Ave Maria," and "Volcano Suite" are some of the tracks listed on this debut album. The music has been compared to that of Coil, Mazzy Star, Siddal, and Matmos.

In 1997, Relapse Records released Amber Asylum's second album, Natural Philosophy of Love. The band soon returned to the studio to record Songs of Sex and Death. The noteworthy album was released in 1998 with tunes like "Vampire," "Dreams of Three," and "Everything You Touch." Supernatural Parlour Collection followed two years later." ~ Charlotte Dillon, Rovi

Dawn of Ouroboros

DAWN OF OUROBOROS is a blackened progressive metal project that is making waves across the globe with a unique blend of death, post, and atmospheric sub-genres built upon an intoxicating European Black Metal influence . Founded and helmed by guitarist Tony Thomas (BOTANIST, CAILLEACH CALLING) and vocalist Chelsea Murphy (TEGMENTUM, CAILLEACH CALLING, Session Vocalist) DAWN OF OUROBOROS took shape over the course of the last several years, finding solid footing in late 2018 with the addition of bassist David Scanlon (DELIRIA) and drummer Ron Bertrand (BOTANIST, RED ROT). DAWN OF OUROBOROS worked to capture their diverse sound and present their material in a developed and visceral way. Combining the formidable technicality of progressive death metal and the overwhelming beauty of post-black metal, this period resulted in a full-length record entitled "The Art of Morphology", released March 30th 2020 on Naturmacht Productions. DAWN OF OUROBOROS made a substantial impact on the metal world for a fledgling band in 2020. Gaining enthusiastic praise from fans and reviewers alike, their debut sold out within the first nine months of its release despite being unable to support the album live due to the events of 2020.

In September of 2021, DAWN OF OUROBOROS was finally able to support their debut live with a successful ten day tour (DARKER WESTERN SKIES TOUR) of the Western United States. During this tour they officially welcomed Ian Baker (RED ROT) on rhythm guitar to fully represent their sound live.

Energized from their tour experience, DAWN OF OUROBOROS entered the studio in November 2021 to begin recording their second album. In which they hope to deliver the same emotional intensity they captured with "The Art of Morphology". For the release of their sophomore effort they have signed with Prosthetic Records to nurture the young band's aspirations. They planto further establish themselves as a touring band through 2022 and 2023.
