CCC invites you to the Book Launch Party for Helen Zia's new nonfiction book, Last Boat out of Shanghai. Zia is a local writer, reporter and activist whose writings focus on LGBTQ, Women's and Human Rights. Last Boat out of Shanghai is based on the "dramatic, real-life stories of a generation caught up in the mass rush out of Shanghai in the wake of China's 1949 Communist Revolution" that parallel the struggles faced by emigrants today. Zia weaves together the stories of four young Shanghai residents who wrestled with the decision to abandon everything for an uncertain life as refugees in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the U.S.
The release party features a talk with Helen Zia, as well as a reception afterwards where you can mingle, meet the author and buy Last Boat out of Shanghai. The first kickoff event for CCC's theme of the year, Present Tense 2019: Task of Remembrance will bring together projects that reflect on the complexities, gravity, and responsibility of remembering.
We are offering 3 different ticket levels: VIP tickets, Reader tickets and General Public tickets.
VIP tickets include a pre-event reception that begins at 4:45, priority seating and a signed copy of Last Boat out of Shanghai.
Reader tickets include reserved seating and a signed copy of Last Boat out of Shanghai.
General Public tickets are $5 with an optional donation.
