Bonjour Monsiuer Courbet! is Gustav Courbet’s most famous painting and an icon of 19th-century French Realism. This monumental work is the focal point of an exhibition celebrating the taste of Alfred Bruyas, 19th-century art patron who encouraged a gener-ation of exceptional French artists. Son of a wealthy banker in the beautiful city of Montpellier in the south of France, Bruyas collected master-works by Courbet, Corot, Delacroix, Gericault, Millet, and Rousseau.
