Bomsori Kim and Drew Petersen in concert

The Mill Valley Chamber Music Society presents the only San Francisco Bay Area concert performance featuring two young rising stars of classical music - violinist, Bomsori Kim and pianist, Drew Petersen. The Sunday, Feb. 18 concert program will include Beethoven: Sonata #8; Schumann: Sonata #1; Ravel: Sonata #2; Wieniawski: Polonaise; and Ysaye: Caprice.

Twenty-eight year old South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim has firmly established herself as one of the eminent, rising stars of the international concert stage. A native of Korea, Kim has achieved the highest levels at many competitions and has performed with major symphony orchestras throughout the world. Kim won 4th Sendai International Music Competition in 2010. The youngest winner of the competition, Kim made her international debut the same year.

A post-graduate Artist Diploma student at The Juilliard School, Kim won the 62nd ARD International Music Competition in Munich. She is also a major prize winner at the Wieniawski, Montreal, Joseph Joachim, Tchaikovsky, Sendai, Sibelius and Qingdao Violin Competitions. Her recent orchestral debuts include solo performances with the Bavarian Radio Symphony, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic and the Munich Chamber Orchestra – and recitals at Vienna’s Musikverein Golden Hall and Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall.

Twenty-four year old Drew Petersen was honored as the 2017 winner of the American Pianists Award. Other prize winning accolades include the Leeds International Piano Competition; Hilton Head International Piano Competition; Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition; New York Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition and the Christel DeHaan Fellowship of the American Pianists Association.

Petersen began his career as a pianist at an early age. He was presented at Carnegie Hall at age 5. At 9-years old he performed a solo recital for Steinway’s 150th Anniversary at Steinway Hall in New York City. Petersen graduated cum laude from Harvard at age19 with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Social Science and completed both his undergraduate and graduate music studies at The Juilliard School, where he was recently accepted into the prestigious Artist Diploma program. Petersen performs internationally at some of the world’s most esteemed festivals and venues. He has have been profiled in The New York Times; New York Magazine; and Andrew Solomon’s book "Far From the Tree." The documentary short by noted filmmaker Kim A. Snyder, "Just Normal," follows 10-year piano prodigy Drew Petersen and conductor Lukas Foss as the two prepared for Petersen's 2004 performance at the Music Festival of the Hamptons in Bridgehampton, New York.

Mill Valley Chamber Music Society offers free admission for young adults 18-years old and under. Audiences members 15-years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.
