On Friday, June 6, FOR-SITE will open its highly anticipated exhibition Black Gold: Stories Untold. Featuring the work of 17 contemporary artists and collectives, and including many new commissions, Black Gold illuminates the narratives and experiences of African Americans who lived in California from the Gold Rush to the Reconstruction period following the Civil War (c. 1848-1877), highlighting the transformative impact of Black communities on the state's cultural, social, and political environs. Black Gold will be presented at Fort Point National Historic Site--the only extant Civil War-era fort on the West Coast of the United States--enhancing the singularity of the experience for audiences. It will remain on view through November 2, 2025.
