Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company 30th Anniversary Exhibition

This survey exhibition highlights significant works by visual artists and designers that have played integral roles in works by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company since the early 1980s. Often seen in supporting roles, these sets, props, or moving images on screens set the tone or become primary interactive elements for the company’s choreographies. Among the artists whose works are featured are Keith Harring, Huck Synder, photographers Kunie Sugiura and Tseng Kwong Chi, filmmaker Gretchen Bender, and artist and designer Bjorn Amelan, Jones’ primary visual collaborator since the mid-1990s.

In honor of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company’s 30th anniversary, YBCA is hosting a month-long celebration which includes /Time: Study I, a site-specific performance at CounterPULSE; the West Coast premiere of A Rite, the collaborative dance theater piece with Anne Bogart’s SITI Company that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky’s groundbreaking The Rite of Spring; and Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company 30th Anniversary Exhibition, a survey exhibition of costumes, photographs, sculptures, videos, and backdrops that have played an integral role in the company’s performances since the early 1980s; screenings of two documentaries on Bill T. Jones; and a symposium examining his role in shaping American contemporary dance.
