JAZZ@theEDGE Festival! This *all-star* group EXPLODES in a distinctive fusion of jazz, classical, hip-hop, soul, rock, dance and electronica flowing from the unique skills of each member.
BIG YUKI redefines the keyboard. YUKI lays down the keys on A Tribe Called Quest's "We Got it from Here/Thank You for your Service" and J. Cole's "Your Eyez Only". He frequently collaborates with Q-Tip, Bilal, Talib Kweli, Harvey Mason, Robert Glasper, Maurice "Mobetta" Brown and others. His debut album "Reaching for Chiron" was hailed as "sonically immersive" (WBGO), "a celestial strain of synth jazz" (DJ Mag), and "sonically kaleidoscopic...and infectiously interesting" (PopMatters).
Brad Miller's trademark bass grooves are setting him apart as "one to watch" in the NYC jazz scene. At just 26 he has played with Gloria Estefan, James Francies, Jon Batiste, Oz Noy, Randy Bernsen, Ira Sullivan, Kofi Burbridge and Othello Molineaux and has performed at NYC's top jazz venues including Dizzy's, Carnegie Hall and Smalls.
Grammy-nominated saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Patrick Bartley's visceral sax solos turned heads during his recent weeklong residency with Jon Batiste at NYC's storied Village Vanguard. Afterwards, he played with jazz legend Herbie Hancock and then performed on Late Night with Colbert. He was featured on an Emmy-nominated HBO special with Wynton Marsalis. Bartley has performed at world-renowned venues including The STAPLES Center, Madison Square Garden, and the Black Sea Jazz Festival.
Stanley Clarke's drummer Mike Mitchell (aka "BLAQUE DYNAMITE") is a mind blowing performer! He has toured with R&B queen Erykah Badu, as well as many jazz stars including Christian McBride, Christian Scott, Derrick Hodge and Antonio Hart. At only 23 years of age, he has also performed with Herbie Hancock! Known as Blaque Dynamite, Mitchell just released his second album "KillingBugs" (Ropeadope). Blaque Dynamite defies all expectations and norms. Most aspiring drummers spend years working on technique, studying with various pros, and poring over "ModernDrummer", all in the hopes of landing a spot with a hot artist. Texas native Mike Mitchell made his own path: he mounted the drum kit in Fort Worth's St. Matthew's Baptist Church at two years of age, and by age eleven he had landed several drum endorsements. He attended Dallas's renowned Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts, but before graduation day jazz icon Stanley Clarke whisked him away for a world tour, the first of many.
