Jan. 16: Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes
In the 1950s and '60s Blue Note Records boasted a roster that included Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, now all larger-than-life figures in the world of jazz. And while many of them recorded for other labels as well, it was with Blue Note that they did their most innovative, most memorable work.

Jan. 30: The Sign for Love
Official Selection, 2017 Tel Aviv International Documentary Festival
In his heartfelt documentary, co-director and subject Elad Cohen explores the meaning and experience of family. Growing up deaf and gay in a family of hearing people, Cohen never felt at home and always felt alone. Sharing a desire with his best friend, Yaeli, to be parents, the new "couple" decide to have a child in a shared parenting arrangement.

NYC 1986. Adam, a lanky young blond-haired guy walks down 125th Street exploring Harlem and sees a grizzled street musician, a one-man band who sings and plays the guitar and percussion with his feet at the same time. He calls himself Mr. Satan and he plays a mean blues. Unexpectedly, the white Jewish kid pulls out a harmonica and asks Satan to jam, and a musical partnership in perfect sync is born. The odd couple are soon killing it at music festivals and other gigs. Then, suddenly, Satan drops out of sight. Two years later, the filmmakers find him in St. Petersburg, Florida.
