Please join us for a celebratory opening reception for the Berkeley Portrait Project, a pop-up exhibition of photographs by Orin Rutchick on view at the David Brower Center Saturday, April 6 through Sunday, May 5.
From October 2017 through April 2018, Rutchick set up a small portable studio on the corner of Adeline and Harmon Streets and shot portraits of local residents. For many, these photographs were the only formal portraits they had of themselves since childhood or their teenage years. The images became a source of pride, both for how they saw themselves and for how they were seen by others.
Rutchick will give an artist talk at 6:30 pm. Food and beverages will be served.
The Berkeley Portrait Project is funded in part by the Berkeley Civic Arts Program & Civic Arts Commission.
