Cantiamo!, Cabrillo Symphonic Choir, Cabrillo Chorale, and the Cabrillo Youth Chorus with the Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra join forces to bring you a powerful rendition of Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem." First performed on May 30, 1962, the "War Requiem" was commissioned to mark the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral which was built after the original fourteenth-century structure was destroyed in a World War II bombing raid on the night of November 14, 1940. Today, it is one of the most popular and most performed works in the choral and orchestral concert repertoire. This performance will be directed by John Anderson with Cheryl Anderson, and features the soloists John Williams, tenor; John Orduna, baritone; and Sydney Gorham, Tanaya Harris and Erykka Ximore, sopranos.
