On May 6 and 7, from 10 am to 5 pm each day, scores of artists who make up Benicia’s well known vibrant artist community will open the doors of their studio spaces for visitors to experience the activities of their creative world through Benicia Artists Open Studios. Visitors can ride a SolTrans Shuttle free of charge between Benicia’s Historic Arsenal District where a number of artist studios are clustered and the downtown First Street area where glass blowing studios, galleries and other art venues are located. Artists welcome the opportunity to share their work through demonstrations, conversation with guests, and sale of original art. Open Studios is Arts Benicia's most highly attended annual event with attendance exceeding 4,000 in past years. Admission is free and open to the public.
Arts Benicia is celebrating its 30th year in 2017. As part of the celebration Arts Benicia is publishing an Open Studios catalog containing artwork images from participating artists, studio locations, way finding and Open Studios maps. Each visitor will receive a copy of the catalog which serves as a guide to studio locations and an art-filled keepsake. In addition, Arts Benicia will host an exhibit honoring Mike Kendall, one of Arts Benicia's first exhibiting artists and a long-time Arsenal resident. The special one man exhibit of Kendall’s paintings and sculptures will be on display in the Arts Benicia gallery from April 8 through May 7. Arts Benicia Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12:00 to 5:00 pm.
Location: Arts Benicia and other locations in Benicia.
