Award-winning local artist Rick Kitagawa is collaborating with the Glama-rama Salon & Gallery and the Asian Women’s Shelter to bring a new feminist art show to San Francisco.
“Angels & Demons” is a collection of Kitagawa’s newest work made up of primarily dark, figurative paintings that explores the juxtaposition of the double standard women face in our patriarchal society. While a woman is often simultaneously put on a pedestal and demonized for the same action, this body of work asks the viewer to question societal prejudices and interpret the angel/demon persona of each piece on their own.
“Rick Kitagawa’s work is both evocative of Francis Bacon’s “Painting (1946)” with a little Francisco Goya’s “Saturn Devouring His Son” with the colors of contemporary pop art. We are excited to have his work shown at The Glama-rama.” - Jes Muse, Glama-rama Salon and Gallery Curator
Angels & Demons opens Saturday, April 14th, 2018 from 7:30-9pm at Glama-Rama! San Francisco - 304 Valencia Street (at 14th Street), San Francisco, CA 94103.
The reception is free to the public and is all-ages. A free screen print and other swag will be given to the first 35 attendees of the opening reception. Original art, prints, and enamel pins will be on sale, and 30% of all sales will go to the Asian Women's Shelter (AWS).
