Best known as pianist and leader of the alternative rock trio Ben Folds Five, singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Ben Folds has built a protean career by moving from strength to strength, classical music to pop to alternative rock. An artist possessed of masterful technique and faultless instincts, he is also one of the most incisive lyricists of his generation. Folds and his quarted perform the delightful mix of revised classics and reflective originals that makes up his 2024 New West Records Christmas album Sleigher.
Formed by the North Carolina native in 1994, Ben Folds Five was among the most subversively unique bands of the era -- essentially a guitar-less punk rock band with Folds and his raucous piano as the central focus. The single "Brick" from their 1997 sophomore album Whatever and Ever Amen became a rock radio staple.
Since the band's breakup in 2000, Folds has led a highly successful solo career and collaborated with artists ranging from "Weird Al" Yankovic and Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls to writer Nick Hornby and actor William Shatner. Additionally, Folds has performed with symphony orchestras around the world and served as Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center from 2017-2025.
With Sleigher, Folds brings a sardonic view and symphonic influence to this program of holidays tunes old and new.
