The highlight of the program will be the World Premiere of a COVID-delayed commissioned song cycle, "Below the Surface," by Canadian-born, Scotland-based Call for Scores composer, Emily Doolittle (b. 1972) for soprano and piano, to texts by Bay Area poets Rachel Richardson (b. 1979) and Rella Lossy (1934-1996), along with nine other works by women composers:

2014 Guggenheim Fellow Elena Ruehr (b. 1963);
2004 Guggenheim Fellow, Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz (b. 1964);
Emerging Puerto-Rican-born composer Angelica Negron (b. 1981);
Four alumnae of the Gabriela Lena Frank Academic of Music: Akshaya Avril Tucker (b. 1992), Korean-American Jungyoon Wie (b. 1990), Seo Yoon (Soyoona) Kim (b. 1988) and Chinese composer Manjing Zhang (b. 1991).
Virtual Pre-concert composer talk at 7:00 pm.
Musicians: soprano Nanette McGuinness, pianist Margaret Halbig, violinist Ilana Blumberg, and cellist Abigail Monroe.
The concert will be performed at the Center for New Music (55 Taylor St., SF) for attendance in person by socially distanced, vaccinated, masked attendees. For those who are more distant, prefer not to attend in person or are unvaccinated, the concert will be live-streamed on YouTube.
All tickets are fully refundable up to one day before the concert.
