Leather
Galit Perez designs and creates a beautiful, modern line of handbags that fit the urban woman's lifestyle. Blending fashion and functionality Galit uses only the highest quality leather and handcrafts her work locally in California. She covers every aspect of the production from the cutting of the hides as well as the sealing and sewing all the components. Inspired by her Spanish roots, Galit makes stylish leather and suede bags in a variety of sizes and splashy colors including rust, camel, red, black, tan, orange and antique pink perfect for everyday or special events.
Painting
Julia Esdaile creates watercolor paintings with hand embellishments of gold leaf and paint. She paints mainly local scenes and wildlife: California poppies, humpback whales, sea lions, ice plant, and great white sharks. "I paint generally 8x10 or 11x14 size paintings," she says "I have giclée prints made, and embellish these either with 23k gold leaf or gold acrylic paint." She also sells greeting cards of her artwork as well as mounted prints attached to wooden cradleboard for a minimalist but beautiful finish.
Jewelry
Jeweler Ling-Yen Jones works mainly in silver, semi-precious stones and pearls. Her style ranges from the traditional to the modern and is completely unique featuring pieces that are individually handmade and are one-of-a-kind, or in small series with repeating motifs. "I define jewelry as creations, which are useful, artistic, symbolic, identifying, and an expression of personal ideas," says Ling-Yen. "In my earring line some of the motifs I use are leaves, birds, and windows. My intention for each one-of-a-kind piece is that it is clean looking, distinctive, and artistically rendered."
Sculpture
As a child, Ben Vose's mind was captivated by storytellers who created a world filled with good defeating evil and exploring worlds inhabited by mysterious creatures. His desire to be a part of that world led him to begin creating sculptures of fantasy animals and creatures, each hand-painted using acrylic paint. A portion of his sales is given to Living Stone Global Foundation, a Kenyan organization dedicated to feeding, educating, and raising up children and their community.
The Belmont Handcrafted Originals Art Fair takes place Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at Carlmont Village Shopping Center, located on Ralston Avenue at Alameda de las Pulgas. The event is sponsored by the Carlmont Village Merchant Association.
