Painting
"There's nothing I love more than to be outdoors with my easel or my camera," says Yeshe Jackson, who creates seascape and wildlife paintings. "I live in Santa Cruz and the surrounding landscape offers an endless array of beautiful sights." He spends a lot of time outdoors, painting en plein air or taking photographs for studio paintings. Yeshe use acrylic and oil paint on stretched canvas or canvas panels. In the studio he uses a more layered approach and when painting outside he uses oils and paint wet into wet to create his colorful, lively artwork.
Glass
What Susan Berger finds most moving about working with glass is that it is a process from which she is continually learning. The glass instructs her as to what it will be, as if it has its own mind making each piece a unique adventure. No two pieces will ever be exactly the same. "My glass work became a spiritual space, giving me purpose and grounding," she says. "Even now, each piece is an expression of both disorder and stability." Susan's colorful creations include dishes, plates, coasters, bowls, decorative pieces and much more ideal for both daily use and display.
Leather
Galit Perez designs and creates a beautiful, modern line of handbags that fit the urban woman's lifestyle. Blending fashion and functionality Galit uses only the highest quality leather and handcrafts her work locally in California. She covers every aspect of the production from the cutting of the hides as well as the sealing and sewing all the components. Inspired by her Spanish roots, Galit makes stylish leather and suede bags in a variety of sizes and splashy colors including rust, camel, red, black, tan, orange and antique pink perfect for everyday or special events.
Jewelry
Gayle Mayhew creates interesting, original, and fun adornments for those who view their ornamental choices as intrinsic to their personal expression. Her design intention is to enhance the sense of the individual, and to diminish the mundane and pervasive generic of big box-hood. Gayle says she considers her tempting bits of glass (created from melting rods of Italian glass) as little paintings. She combines these one-of-a-kind components with fabulous natural gemstones, pearls, or whatever interests her eye, to build whimsical wearable art pieces that enhance the wearer's personal story.
The Belmont Handcrafted Originals Art Fair takes place Saturday and Sunday, March 26-27, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at Carlmont Village Shopping Center, located on Ralston Avenue at Alameda de las Pulgas and is sponsored by the Carlmont Village Merchant Association.
