Hand Painted Designs by Lorna (in Napa) are one-of-a-kind hand painted garments and accessories effusing creativity. Her line includes jackets, vests, pants, tops, dresses, handbags, and pillows. Since the age of 12, Lorna has been fascinated with fabrics and color, “I locked myself away in the bedroom with my mother’s Singer sewing machine. With pattern and paints and an enduring passion to create, I experimented with paints and cotton fabrics and discovered my unique talent for hand painted designs.” Inspired by the beauty and ambiance of Napa, Lorna says she has the privilege of bringing joy, beauty and a little bit of fun to those wearing her whimsical collection. Because every piece is hand made, some garments will vary slightly. This makes each piece a unique work of art. Lorna’s tagline: “Dare to wear whimsy!”

Jewelry
Ling-Yen Jones is a talented Mendocino County jeweler working mainly in silver, semi-precious stones, and pearls. With a unique style ranging from traditional to modern, each piece is individually handcrafted, and is therefore one-of-a-kind or a part of a small series with repeating motifs. In her earring line, Ling-Yen’s motifs include delicate leaves, birds, and windows. When these elements and others are integrated into an art piece they can represent new beginnings, changes, hope, and further personal growth. “My intention for each one-of-a-kind piece is that it is clean looking, distinctive, and artistically rendered,” she says.

Painting
Born in Mississippi, raised and educated in Wisconsin, Gwendolyn McShepard now makes California her home. The integration of imagery from her life experiences and many travels abroad has influenced her style, giving her paintings a sultry and soulful edge. Over the years, Gwendolyn’s use of bold color and her painting a diverse range of images and styles has endeared her to many collectors and art lovers. Having an extensive background in commercial and graphic arts, some of her commissioned corporate art clients include the U.S. Marine Corps, California First Bank, Kaiser Hospital, and KKSF-AM. Her mural project at the Rose Garden Inn in Berkeley is one of the largest single female artist mural projects in the Bay Area, comprising roughly 3,000 square feet.

Jewelry
Virginie “Vie” Blakey is a French, self-taught, visual artist and artisan jeweler. She grew up in the Lorraine region in the northeast part of France and now works from her home studio in Los Angeles. Unsatisfied with what she saw on the market, Vie decided to bring to life what appealed to her about the ancient jewelry she saw in museums. What started as creating unique designs for herself transformed gave way to the formation of her own handcrafted jewelry business. Inspired by mythology, ancient civilizations and the outdoors, Vie fabricates her own molds from sculptures, coins, cameos and other historical objects, hand carves stamps and then makes each piece individually. Every art piece has it’s own unique and authentic look and feel, recreating the much sought-after aesthetic of historic artifacts with a stroke of modern design.

The Belmont Handcrafted Originals Art Fair takes place Saturday and Sunday, March 30-31, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at Carlmont Village Shopping Center, located on Ralston Avenue at Alameda de las Pulgas. The event is sponsored by the Carlmont Village Merchant Association.
