Beastling - an oral storytelling performance

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Come closer. I'm going to tell you a story.
Schedule:7:30pm: Doors open8:15pm: Preamble begins8:30pm - 11:00pm: Main story, with an intermission in the middle11:00pm - 11:30pm: Mingling and wind-down
The story is called Beastling. In it, a young half-human half-fairy prince is caught in a custody battle between his mother’s world and his father’s.
I'm working on turning Beastling into a novel + TV miniseries. This performance is a preview of that story, presented in an engaging, casual oral storytelling format. Imagine you took the plot of a season's worth of TV, and shared it with a friend as an energetic tavern yarn. This is a bit like that.

More about the story:
Beastling is a bit like Game of Thrones, in that this is a medieval-ish world with magic and fairies, but the people are deeply realistic. There's morally grey politics and brutality and fucking. Notably, there are no villains and no idiots -- every major character is both sympathetic and reasonably intelligent. And yet there is still an intense amount of conflict.
The story is loosely inspired by Beauty and the Beast, in that it borrows some imagery and hits a few similar plot beats. However, the characters have completely different personalities and motivations, the themes are totally different, and the mood is darker and more adult. Personally, I like to imagine that the 1740 French fable is a bastardized mistelling of a true story, and the 1991 Disney movie is an even further bastardized mistelling of that. My story is what actually happened, once upon a time in a far-away land.

More about the performer:
As a writer, I’m currently best known for my Game of Thrones fan scripts — speculative full-episode scripts for the upcoming Season 8, which you can read at AliceShipwise.com. Strangers on the internet routinely give them effusive praise and tell me they are as good or better than the real scripts by D&D, and could pass for true script leaks.
