Bearers of Good News

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Desta Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition, "Bearers of Good News," paintings by Dariusz Labuzek, and a sculpture by Dina Angel Wing from March 1 to April 9. An artist reception will be held on March 5, from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Polish-born artist Dariusz Labuzek's primitive-style paintings are inherently figurative. Yet, their naive imagery is predominantly stylized and has an illustrative quality that is founded on an abstract painterly aesthetic. The juxtaposition of abstraction and figuration, and the fusion of mixed media, gestures, and symbols, make his work compelling. His figures were created as vessels to be filled with textures, colors, and ideas, captivating compositions that conspire to feed our curiosity and imagination.

Dina Angel Wing, an Israeli-born artist presents her first sculpture in her new series, an exploration of the stylistic transformation of 20th-century art. Dina explored those early concepts and interpreted two-dimensional art, like paintings, into three-dimensional clay. She often works on thematic suites based on self-imposed artistic parameters, in this case probing the impact of early 20th-century art on the early 21st century artists. The sculpture in this exhibition, "After Picasso," reflects that exploration.
