Bay Area Trajectories: Artists & Curators Discuss Historic Trends in the Arts

Join seasoned artists and curators in a discussion about how the exhibiting artists in The San Francisco Foundation & SOMArts’ Murphy & Cadogan Contemporary Art Awards Exhibition reflect, extend and advance the rich history of art in the Bay Area. Moderated by Anuradha Virkam, the panelists include San Francisco Art Institute president Charles Desmarais, artist Hung Liu, and Associate Director and Senior Curator of Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana Monica Ramirez-Montagut.

The Annual Murphy and Cadogan Contemporary Art Awards Exhibition, September 3–28, 2013, showcases the work of promising visual artists from regional Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs working across disciplines and identifies young artists whose work intersects with emerging trends. Other free public events include an opening reception & awards ceremony on Friday, September 6, 6:30–9pm, and Makers, Music & Mimosas, an afternoon of creative workshops & live music, Saturday, September 28, 12–3pm.
