Currently through October 24, 2021
The first ever Sheridan Prize for Art is launched and now accepting artwork. This historic series of art prizes is the very first prize ever to honor living artists in the Bay Area, to create a platform to show some of the best art the region has to offer, regardless of an artist's reputation, history, sales or resume. A total of 72 cash Awards and Honorable Mentions will be awarded on Nov. 1, 2021.
The Sheridan Prize for Art plans to become an annual online opportunity for all visual artists in the Bay Area to showcase their work and possibly win cash prizes or honorable mention in the area of art they work within.
This Prize for Art also wishes to promote and celebrate groups of artists who have traditionally been left out of many competitions in order to give you, the artist, choices among which kind of art or among which group of artists you wish to show your art.
The 10 different categories or groups to which artists can submit their work are:
Painting
Sculpture
Photography
Printmaking
Experimental Art
BIPOC (Artists of Color)
Women Artists
LGBTQ+ Artists
Incarcerated Artists
Immigrant Artists
As well there will be an Artists' Choice Award, voted on by the Participating Artists, and
a People's Choice Award voted on by the viewer and visitors to the Sheridan Prize for Art website at
https://sheridanprizeforart.com.
Much of the best art of the Bay Area goes unacknowledged, unknown, and is virtually a secret except for the few.
This historic series of art prizes for 2021 is the very first prize to begin to raise the profile of living artists in the Bay Area. I hope to begin to treat living artists as the great human resource that we are and by acknowledging, honoring and celebrating the art of the Bay Area to allow us to take our rightful place in the culture of our time and our place. The contest runs through October 24, 2021, with the Awards being announced Nov. 1.
$10 per artwork submitted.
Presented by John Sheridan.
