For this very special Festival event, Barefoot Chamber Concert's popular house band, Hallifax & Jeffrey are joined by guest stars Andrew Canepa and Adaiha MacAdam-Somer.
Simpson, and Locke, two virtuoso viol-playing composers, produced stunning chamber music in the mid-17th century. Simpson's 4 suites for each of the seasons and his 12 "Monthes", exquisite one-movement miniatures, are a fabulous challenge for the treble and 2 bass viols and organ continuo they were written for. Matthew Locke's fantasies and dances from his gorgeous 3-part "Little Consort" and musically inventive "Flatt Consort" are completely different, and contrast splendidly with the Simpson.
