Artist Demonstration: Bamboo Weaving with Honma Hideaki
Thursday, June 22
1–2 PM
Samsung Hall
This Artist Demonstration is a rare chance to watch Japanese bamboo artist Honma Hideaki in action. Hideaki’s work reflects the abundant natural beauty of his homeland, Sado Island in Japan, in part by his use of menya, a soft, pliable bamboo that only grows on the island. In this one-hour presentation, Hideaki demonstrates traditional weaving patterns and talks about the long history of this practice. Register for the workshop that follows if you want to try your hand at weaving with menya.
