The Octopus Literary Salon is proud to present Babar in Exile, a quarterly commemoration and revival of the high energy San Francisco reading series of the 1990’s, Café Babar and Paradise Lounge. Our eighth installment marks the first anniversary of this series. We are excited to feature two former and very active participants of Babar and Paradise, Jon Longhi, whose writing has been compared to Terry Southern, Charles Bukowski, and Hunter S. Thompson, and Dawn Oberg, a versatile musician who is currently writing and recording songs from and for the Dystopia. As well we welcome “honorary Babarian” Joel Landmine, who will turn your day inside-out and lay it on the table.
So come on down to check out a slice of Bay Area poetry history, now and in the making, and make your way home with a bindle full of inspiration and a thimbleful more hope for the species.

Jon Longhi is the author of four books, including Wake Up and Smell The Beer. His writing, which critics have compared to Terry Southern, Charles Bukowski, and Hunter S. Thompson, has also recently appeared in San Francisco Noir (Akashic Books) and Retaking the Universe: William S. Burroughs in the Age of Globalization (Pluto Press). He received a 2014 Acker Award for Avant Garde Excellence in Fiction.
Dawn Oberg is a San Francisco-based songwriter who is currently writing and recording songs from and for the Dystopia. She has been compared to Randy Newman in SPIN and on NPR. Other comparisons include Gertrude Stein, Sid Vicious, Harry Nilsson and Noel Coward (LA Record).
Yeah, Well..., Joel Landmine's first collection of poetry, received a five star Amazon review from some dude who also gave a five star review to a 24-count box of Charleston Chews. So his poems are as good or better than a 24-count box of Charleston Chews. According to some guy in Utah.
