Awesome Orchestra End-of-Year Concert

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Awesöme Orchestra announces their fourth annual End-of-Year Concert, Sunday, December 2, 2018, 8:00–9:30 p.m. at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley. After playing with over 500 local musicians this year at venues all across the Bay Area, Awesöme Orchestra will bring local composers, listeners, musicians, and their ever-widening community under one roof for an evening of celebration and highlights from their 2018 season.

The event features three world premiere performances of works by Bay Area composers. Resident Guest Conductor and composer Brian Adam McCune will be premiering his Harry Potter-inspired piece The Potions Master written for narrators and orchestra. The program also includes a newly commissioned orchestral arrangement by Alex Van Gils of “Pocket Universe,” a piece by local chiptune and piano duo Aivi & Surasshu (known for composing music to Cartoon Network’s animated series Steven Universe), and the premiere performance of “Pie Jesu”, a new movement from local composer Arturo Rodriguez's Requiem Sinfonica, written in commemoration of those lost in Oakland’s 2016 Ghost Ship Fire.

Arturo Rodriguez has composed six movements so far for his Requiem Sinfonica (there will eventually be a total of nine) and this is the second year that Awesöme Orchestra has premiered a movement at their End-of-Year Concert. A long term project, Rodriguez and AOC plan to commission and complete all nine movements of Requiem Sinfonica and have them premiered and professionally recorded by 2021.

Rounding out the eclectic and ambitious repertoire, the End-of-Year Concert also features the audience-favorite Twin Peaks Suite by Angelo Badalamenti, Ferde Grofé’s Mississippi Suite, and a fun new arrangement of “A Day In The Life” by The Beatles featuring Guest Artist Dan Amrich.

A combination free community event and fundraiser, the End-of-Year Concert supports Awesöme Orchestra’s mission to make orchestral music accessible to players and audience members alike. Enjoy the epic sound of orchestral music in a relaxed and fun-loving environment.
