Local resident, broadcaster, and author, Russ Johnson will read from his new book, "Tales of the Radio Traveler" at 7pm Thursday October 11 at Green Apple Books (upstairs) at 506 Clement Street at 6th Avenue, San Francisco.
Johnson, whose writings have been called "armchair travel at its best," tunes into the wavelengths of the world as he blends radio lore, science and wry humor in his true adventures in 18 countries, from his weird encounters as a disc jockey broadcasting from a duck swamp in the moors of Minnesota and Oakland, trekking through the jungles of Nepal in pursuit of "the mother of all chickens", broadcasting a coup d’état in the islands of Fiji, to joining sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke as he redesigns Mars. He even explores one of the last flea circuses at Munich Oktoberfest.
"Tales of the Radio Traveler” is a perfect Bill Bryson-type snacking book -- a chapter-turner, each chapter a morsel of adventure, amusement, and insight that will tempt the reader to reach for "just one more".
Whether you are ready to board the next plane or just travel in your mind, you'll get a kick out of meeting this entertaining local author. You can find out more and listen to virtual readings: http://talesoftheradiotraveler.com.
