Workshop: Four seasons of life - Embracing Life and Death with Butoh
“Spring” – Growth. Blooming. A gift from previous season. A precious turning point of life. Nourished during winter, the soil gives new life to flowers. Death transforms itself into Life.“Summer” – Summer Sun has two faces. One face is the strong energy which makes plants grow as much as they can.Another face is this same energy, too strong for the plants, which makes them dry and sack their life.“Autumn” – Even they begin to wither, even they lose power, flower's beauty is lurking quietly. What is this “beauty?" For the next generation to take over the seed, it is beauty of bliss, beauty of sacrifice. “Winter” – This season symbolizes death. Flower which dies returns to the soil with nourishment. Where does the spirit of flowers go? Can this spirit also a be a gift for the Spring? Becoming flowers, and dancing this four seasons of their life, also becoming insect, animal and spirit. Naturally discovering “4 seasons of human life." Each of us can find precious dances in her life. Getting deeper into this four seasons theme reaches to the mystery of life. We are facing butoh's most important themes “bliss, purification, love, requiem, sacrifice, life & death”. Dancing deeply with embracing life & death. Then, the dance which comes from the inner body starts conveying that “death is part of life circulation." Forget everything, and dance embracing all the beautiful four Seasons.
