THEME: GERMINATE
For the first time in ArtSpan's 43 year history working with artists, creatives, and community partners all over San Francisco, we are working to create and develop a an art center to call our home -- a true incubator for creative initiative. The ArtSpan Onondaga Art Center, located in the heart of the Excelsior neighborhood, will feature artist studios, a community meeting space, a collaborative gallery, a resource center, and more. Having this space will allow ArtSpan to take root and evolve the organization into something bigger, more innovative, and substantially more impactful. We are poised to cultivate deeper, meaningful in-person connections between artists and the public as we take the San Francisco art scene to the next level.
In light of ArtSpan's new propensity for growth, the theme for Selections 2018 will be "Germinate." Artists will be asked to think creatively upon this theme, and to submit artworks that embody the idea of expanding into a greater being from a smaller existence. We encourage applicants to explore the concepts around advancement, progression, incubation, and growth.
