In this workshop, we will investigate Art Based Research (ABR) while building three different types of handmade books. We will be experimenting with a myriad of materials including acrylic paint, liquid watercolours, collage, and printmaking while exploring a variety of mark making techniques. We will unpack ABR and apply artful thinking strategies to the topics generated, layering these ideas within the pages of our bookmaking projects. This workshop is designed to engage the artist and non-artist alike; all are welcome to participate.
Participants are asked to bring in personal ephemera, both to share, and to keep for personal use. All materials, including additional ephemera, will be on hand. Suggestions for ephemera to bring: letters, homework, envelopes, stamps, wrapping paper, magazines, broken books, maps, menus, ticket stubs, old atlases, photographs
This workshop is led by Michelle Holdt and Caren Andrews both faculty in the Integrated Learning Specialist Program.
