ArtSpan and Mission Bowling Club are excited to present Ode to the Mission by Mila Kirillova is a plein air painter's ode to one of San Francisco's most iconic neighborhoods with this solo show with the Art-In-Neighborhoods program. Over the past ten years, Mila Krillova has plein-air painted across San Francisco. Kirillova has painted the Mission District more than anywhere else--capturing the everyday life, architecture, and evolving spirit of the community with care and curiosity.
Presented mostly as a series of square archival fine art prints mounted on deep wood panels, this collection gathers Kirillova highly sought after oil paintings of the Mission from 2019 to 2025. From chalk circles in Dolores Park during the early days of the pandemic, to the changing bike lanes of Valencia Street and neighborhood staples like Dog Eared Books, each piece holds a moment in time--familiar to many, and deeply personal to the artist.
Rooted in the language of figurative painting, animation, and street photography, Krillova's work is about documenting a place and goes beyond -- noticing the small stories that make it feel like home and visual joy. Her layered brushstrokes and simplified forms focus on people moving through space, inviting viewers to find meaning in ordinary scenes.
Whether you live in the Mission, pass through often, see it from afar, or are seeing it for the first time, Ode to the Mission offers a portrait of a neighborhood shaped by change, memory, and connection.
