Art Reception: 'Imposter' by Anita Drieseberg

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Spark Arts Gallery is proud to present the art of Castro-based artist Anita Drieseberg throughout the month of July! Anita's work is informed by her identity crisis as an orphaned child adopted by older, immigrant parents. She always felt like an alien with no history who was dropped to earth and forced to live as an imposter daughter/sister/niece. The loneliness of each piece is tinged with a kitschy humor and retro vibe that comes from being raised by mid-century parents. The pastel colors and childhood imagery are a nod to a quote she once read that rang true for her: "The adopted child never grows up, because who ever heard of an adopted adult?"

The faceless characters and empty shoes represent an invisible birth-mother, who was both absent and ever-present. Happily, Anita's background in animation and stand-up comedy brings a campy, tongue-in-cheek hue to the work.

Much of her work is digital and is available in any size/price range!

Anita and friends will also be performing a comedy showcase at the gallery on Wed July 26 7pm.

Anita will be screening her animated short film "The Old Flame" at both events.
