What is Art of Survival, and why are we doing this?Art of Survival is a pop-up benefit art show about sexual assault. It's about consent, it's about healing through trauma, and it's about resisting abuse and regaining control of our bodies. Art of Survival was created by a group of artists, activists, scientists, and survivors in response to #metoo, #timesup, and the growing presence of sexual violence in the media.
Each artist in the show takes a unique approach in using art to empower and educate through radical and intersectional themes and experimental mediums. Art of Survival calls for bystander intervention, commitment to practicing consent, rejection of social norms, resilient visibility, and above all, living through transformative art.
Last year's inaugural show featured artists from around the Bay Area, and raised over $5000 for La Casa de las Madres and SFWAR, two anti-rape organizations in San Francisco. This year's benefit show is back, with more artists, greater support, and more passion! All proceeds from the event will go to support Bay Area Woman Against Rape, an organization that provides resources, support, education, and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault. Exhibiting artists: Mariona Barkus, Katie Benn, Emily Budd, Gracie CT, Graciella Delgado, Carly Dreme, Ricki Dywer, Theresa Gooby, Georgia Hinaris, Sara Knight, Beata Krusyznski, Allison Jones, Bridgit Lee, Kirk Maynard, Bianca Ng, Cynthia Ott, Mackenzie Pikaarti, Carissa Potter, Sarah Six, Sarah E. Swist, and more!
