April 16-May 29, 11am to 7pm Wed-Sat, 11-5 Sun
Tashi Gurung resides in one of the most remote places on Earth. In this exhibit, we'll present the Tibetan Art of Thangkas and Mandala.
Our fifth art exhibition takes us to a remote village in Nepal, capital of an ancient Mustang Kingdom, just kilometers away from Tibet. This is where Nepali artist, Tashi Gurung lives and paints.
25 years ago, Tashi participated in the restoration of ancient Buddhist monasteries in Mustang. He worked on 500-year-old murals first in his hometown, and later in Tibet, India, and Bhutan. Tashi has since then become a master Thangka and Mandala painter, using elements from the ancient monasteries (gompas) in his work.
Three years ago I traveled to Mustang and that's where I met Tashi. In this exhibit, we present Tashi's latest work, a unique collection of Tibetan Buddhist traditional artwork: Wheel of Life and Life of Buddha thangkas, Kalachakra and Mantra mandalas, and his other work.
