April Artist Reception and Mill Valley's First Tuesday Artwalk

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Artist reception and Mill Valley's First Tuesday Artwalk: Tuesday, April 4th 5-7PM. Showcasing this month's exhibiting artists, Muriel Schmalberg Ullman and Laurie Curtis in the Theatre Gallery and Kathryn Strietmann in the Crescendo Gallery.

MURIEL SCHMALBERG ULLMAN
I paint things I love, in places I want to be. Most of my paintings are done on location. I have a passion for farmers markets and set up my easel in the midst of it all in Marin and SW France, where I paint several months every year. I love the lively atmosphere, bright fresh vegetables, just harvested flowers, and especially in France, the umbrellas. Painting on location captures the fleeting experience, changing light and excitement of the moment.

LAURIE CURTIS
For the last 20 years I’ve been a ceramicist and although I love working with clay, my first love has always been watercolor painting on paper. Most of the pieces I’m showing are an extension of the painting I do on my pottery – lots of fruits and flowers and a few West Marin landscapes. My style is a little bit nostalgia mixed with Japanese brush strokes. I’m endlessly fascinated with the different characteristics of pigments and how the colors relate to each other and settle on the paper when using lots of water.

KATHRYN STRIETMANN
I was born and raised in Marin County. I received my BFA from Art Center College Of Design in Pasadena. I lived in New York City working for magazines, small weekly papers and the New York Times Book Review. I never lost my passion for childrens books and still love to tell a story with pictures. I’m particularly inspired by fairy tales, myths, fables, music, fashion and world events. I use silk screen with acrylic paint, water color, gauche, inks and dyes.
